Gold Star Bullion Security Air freight

Air freight

Consignments moved by air, worldwide, with the chargeable weight worked out in front of you rather than after the fact.

How a booking runs

We collect, repack to air cargo standard where the packing you have will not survive handling, raise the air waybill, tender the consignment to the airline and instruct our agent at the far end to clear customs and deliver.

You get one reference at booking. Every milestone against it (collected, packed, documented, departed, in transit, customs, arrived, delivered) is dated, located and entered by a named operator. Nothing on the record appears without someone putting it there.

What it costs

Airlines charge on the greater of actual gross weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight converts the space a consignment occupies into a weight, because a light bulky load costs an airline the same as a dense one.

Volumetric weight formula for air freight
Volumetric weightL × W × H (cm) ÷ 6,000
Chargeable weightthe greater of gross and volumetric
Worked example120 × 80 × 90 ÷ 6,000 = 144 kg

A pallet of that size grossing 96 kg is charged at 144 kg, because the volumetric figure is the greater. Measure the packed consignment, not the goods.

Documents we need

  • A packing list for every consignment, itemised, with weights.
  • A commercial invoice for anything moving commercially.
  • Advance notice of hazardous goods, before collection, not at the airport.
  • For bullion, the refiner, serial numbers, fineness and assay reference of each piece.

Insurance

Carrier liability is not insurance and will not make you whole. We recommend cargo insurance on every consignment and arrange it on request. Cover exists when it is written on the instruction, and not otherwise.
